Tropical Storm Lane:

Location:  19.5 N / 158.4 W (advisory 44a)

(185 miles south-southeast of Lihue Hawaii)

(130 miles south-southwest of Honolulu, Hawaii)

Winds:  65 mph (56 KTs) Tropical Storm

Central Pressure:  992 Mb

Discussion:

According to the Central Pacific Hurricane Center (CPHC), Tropical Storm Lane continues to slowly weaken while drifting to the north-northwest at 3 mph.

Tropical Storm Lane is losing organization but is expected to remain a tropical storm for the next several hours before becoming a post-tropical remnant low.  The peak wind gusts at Honolulu have been 35 Kts  (24 August /09z to 14z) and winds are much lighter now.  Tropical Storm Lane’s slow movement (soon to be westward) is causing prolonged heavy rainfall across favored upslope areas of the island of Hawaii where over 40 inches has already been reported and ten inches or more is still possible.

Across other areas, rainfall has been less organized and lighter but locally stronger rains have fallen.  The heavy rainfall – especially across Hawaii – is expected to continue for the next 24 hours at least.

The main impact will be flooding, especially across Hawaii.  The flooding threat will continue the next couple of days.  Surface winds remained at tropical storm strength according to initial analysis.

Assessing the impact

Hurricane and flood alert notifications that allow custom thresholds result in targeted information sent when you need it, helping reduce the noise and producing actionable analytics.

EigenPrism allows users to select the perils most applicable to their exposure sets, and then set customized thresholds appropriate for each peril and exposure set. Thresholds can be set using a variety of metrics, including number of assets, impacted values, ground up loss, and damage factors. The result is smart Alerts that assess the impact for you, and let you know when it is time to act.
