Tropical Storm Elsa heading West-Northwest across Atlantic
The disturbance in the Atlantic region became better organized and rapidly intensified into the Tropical Storm Elsa earlier today. Elsa is expected to strengthen more in the next 48 hours and will continue moving west-northwest across Atlantic.
Tropical storm warnings are in effect for Barbados, Martinique, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines. A tropical storm watch is in effect for Guadeloupe and Grenada.
Elsa could reach Florida coast next week- “It is too soon to determine what, if any, impacts could occur there next week given the uncertainty in the long-range forecast, “ National Hurricane Center said.
Elsa became the earliest known fifth named storm in this region on record. The previous record was held by Tropical Storm Edouard, which formed on July 5, 2020.
