Powerful M 7.1 earthquake rocked Japan

A powerful earthquake of magnitude 7.1 struck Japan late Saturday night – on 13th feb at 11 PM local time. Japan’s Meteorological Agency says it could be an aftershock of the deadly 9.0-magnitude earthquake that struck the same area almost 10 years ago.

The epicenter was located 45.9 miles northeast of Namie and was estimated to be at a depth of about 55 kilometers. The officials said that the quake of this intensity could have aftershocks up to a strong 6 on the Japanese scale for at least a week.
