M 6.8 Earthquake in Papua New Guinea – Latest in series of aftershocks

 In Event News

Another strong earthquake (M 6.8) struck off the coast of Papua New Guinea today, following yesterday’s M 6.7 quake in the southern region of the country. These two quakes are the latest in a string of aftershocks since the M 7.5 event on February 26.

While most aftershocks have occurred in the same region as the M 7.5 earthquake, hampering recovery efforts, today’s quake was well to the east, as shown in the image.
