Tropical Storm Arthur

The first named storm of Atlantic Hurricane Season 2020 is Tropical Storm Arthur. On Saturday, the storm curled around South Florida causing heavy rainfall at the rate of almost 2 inches per hour in Miami and Fort Lauderdale, Florida. A severe thunderstorm brought lightning and gusty winds to the metro area.

The storm is moving northeast, along the northern coast of the Carolinas, bringing rain and tropical-storm-force winds (39 mph or stronger) to the Carolinas. As the storm progresses, areas including Southern Maryland, Ocean City, and Delaware, Southern Virginia may see wind gusts around 30 mph.

Super Cyclone Amphan

The Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm Amphan – pronounced as UM-PUN, has intensified into a Super Cyclonic Storm at 11:30 IST on Monday. By Wednesday, it is forecasted to move towards West Bengal and Bangladesh coastlines with wind speed up to 185 km per hour. The strong storm surge may bring heavy rainfall coupled with the high-velocity wind in several coastal districts of Odisha and parts of West Bengal.

Maximum impact will be felt across South and North 24 Parganas and East Midnapore. We expect a wind speed of 120-130 kmph at the coastal areas. In Kolkata, it could be around 70-80 kmph with heavy rainfall on Wednesday.
